Alter Ego

Alter Ego honestly started by accident. I made the song in the back room of my dad's warehouse on a little mic setup. I was really just messing around, punching in and kind of freestyling when I started doing this aggressive, grainy voice I'd never really used before. I came up with some bars on the spot, kept going with it, and that voice slowly turned into this whole alter ego character.

The concept is basically two different sides of me. One side is trying to stay out the way, get to the money, take care of the family and keep building. Then there's the alter ego — the darker, more aggressive character who wants to crash out, spend money and do the complete opposite. That's storytelling and a character in the music, not me saying that's how I live every day.

When we made the video with Visual Paradise, we got to actually bring those two sides to life. I wanted somebody to watch it and first think the song is hard and I got bars — but then catch that there's a real concept behind everything happening.

That's one of my favorite things about making music. I'm really family-oriented in real life, but when I'm making a song I don't feel like I have to stay inside one box. I can create a character, try a completely different voice or sound, and take the music somewhere people might not expect from me.
